Hannibal Rising Movie

Went and saw this today.

Outline
The story is about how he came to be was good, starting with his youth during WW2 in 1944. And 8 years later, the main plot line unfolds showing him becoming a medical school student in France where he begins to learn of the many body parts that make a human work.

Conclusion
In all honesty I wasn’t overly impressed with this film. For me it seemed slow and at nearly 2 hours long it left me longing for the end credits. That said it does paint the picture of why Hannibal is the way he is, the locations/sets are well thought out and do add to the eariness of it all.

Birthday Do

Finished work then it was off to the pub for a couple of jars. Scott and Raj turned up as well which was nice, we’re off to Raj’s parade next month to heckle him 🙂 After drinks and giving a couple who were only a shandy away from having sex on the table one last look we headed off to the local curry house. Great meal was had and thanks to Graham none of us had to pay anything, cheers mate.

One thing a lot of people learnt that night was….

King Cobra Beer

Is bad, and at ABV. 8% i’m not surprised!

They also got me a new torch that I wanted and some vouchers

What a great bunch of people I work with….

Why O Why?

Why do people on crowded trains insist on standing and reading their times newspaper that takes up half a carriage alone. Surely they must see everyones fighting for their inch of terroitry!

Drones

My course is going well and the end is nigh. During this weeks daily battle with the wonder that is public transport and while coming down on the esculator I looked over to my right at the up esculator and thought that the people on it are like drones they don’t look at anyone, don’t talk, don’t smile, but just sip from their luke ware starbucks coffe and browse the mornings metro. I also wondered if they’d actually notice if the top of the escualtor wasn’t infact an entrance to the station but rather a 500 ft shear drop and they’d all unwittingly plunge to their squishy death in a lemmings style freny.

Snow Madness

It wasn’t until someone mentioned on a forum that they’d had snow overnight that I actually looked out my room window to notice that i’d been hit with it as well. Can’t be too bad I thought it’s only surface stuff. But I was wrong, apart from nearly breaking some sort of bone by slip slidding down the pavement with my psh shoes which should be advertised as skies due to the lack of grip the journey was to prove much worse. Got to the station, track was clear no snow but then the announcement came, “train has just left Watford and will arrive in 15 mins”. No problem I thought, but 15 mins came and went and the station filled up causing people to huddle together like penguins. FINALLY the train came and we squeezed on like cattle. My subsequent trains were no different and I was glad for my Mc’ds breakfast at the end.

Wot No Bins

Started a week long training course today which meant I had to travel to Victoria station. Now seeing as i’d arived early I decided to get a bite to eat as in my egarness this morning i’d forgotten about breakfast. I had a hot snack and then set about the disposal of my rubbish and do you know what? I couldn’t find a sodding bin anywhere! I trapssed all over the main station promanade but not a single one in sight, I ended up throwing it away in a council bin outside. What’s the story with that then? why no bins? however on my waste disposal rampage I noticed at the same time that there was no litter on the floors?

Jarhead Movie

Got this on DVD for christmas and have managed to get round to watching it.

Outline
Jarhead is true story based on a book written by a U.Sm Marine. The film follows the main character Anthony Swofford played by Jake Gyllenhaal about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait. The film shows a somewhat brief introduction to his training before he’s packed off to the middle east. Out there the story follows his and the rest of his regiments ups down and fustrations of being 1000’s of miles away from loved ones and not seeing any fighting action.

Conclusion
The biggest thing I can say is if your looking for a war film then let this pass you by as this one definately is not, if your looking for that then your better off going with Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. I percieved Jarhead more as a documentary following the army life of marine from training, to war, to home again. The film was shot with striking cinematography, scences in the desert especially the oil fires top the chart for me. It has some political undertones however I didn’t find them to be a distraction as there are comical pieces in the movie to stop it from getting ‘too heavy’. All in all a worth watching and I would be quite happy to sit down for a second viewing.
